Currently Historic Registration is available for 1, 2 or 3 years on a LogBook system, allowing 90 days use per vehicle registration year.

For a vehicle to be eligible for Historic Registration it must have been built in a year at least 30 years before the application date. Only the year counts. For example, a vehicle built at any time during 1971 is eligible for Historic Registration from 1st January 2001.

To be eligible for Historic Registration the vehicle owner must be a member of a Recognised Motor Vehicle Club. The vehicle has to be inspected by an authorized member of the club to verify it's historic integrity. For example an engine or other major component from a different make or period would be a significant change and would not be eligible.

The owner will be given an approval form to take to Motor Registration. The new Registration Papers are then returned to the authorized club officer who will issue a Log book and validate the Registration Papers with the Club Stamp, LogBook No. and Issue date.

At membership renewal the club has to validate the LogBook and Registration Papers. The owner must remain a financial member of a recognised club for the period of registration.

The Logbook can cover 4 membership years and if membership is not renewed in that period the Club must inform the Registrar .

Historic registration is not transferable with the vehicle. Cost approx. $70 per year incl. ESL. Variations may occur if the car's registration has expired, you need new number plates etc. Stamp duty is not payable if a vehicle is to be registered under the scheme.

Roadworthy inspection (Regency Park) of a vehicle bought interstate is not required if the vehicle has previously been registered in an Australian State or Territory. (Evidence of registration must be provided)
